WORKING FAMILIES PARTY ENDORSES MARINA DIMITRIJEVIC FOR MILWAUKEE COMMON COUNCIL

As WFP Gears up to Build on 2019 Milwaukee School Board Wins in 2020, Dimitrijevic Transitions from WFP State Director Role to Continue her Run

Milwaukee — The Working Families Party (WFP) today announced its endorsement of County Supervisor and former WFP State Director Marina Dimitrijevic for alderwoman in Milwaukee’s 14th District. It is the progressive political organization’s first endorsement of the 2020 election cycle in Wisconsin, coming after a big win in the Milwaukee school board races earlier this year.

“Marina proved her commitment to Milwaukee working families on the Milwaukee County Board and as Wisconsin State Director of the WFP, and she has both the record and vision our city needs,” said Rebecca Lynch of the WFP. “She’s a working mother that will fight for a more responsive and accountable Milwaukee government, for clean and safe drinking water, and great public schools. She’s exactly the kind of progressive champion Milwaukee’s families deserve.”

Dimitrijevic has served on the Milwaukee County Board since 2004, where she was one of the youngest county supervisors ever elected, and championed initiatives on women’s health, environmental protection, and housing. She has served since August 2015 as state director of the Wisconsin WFP, leading the organization’s successful work electing progressive champions from county boards to the governor’s mansion. She is stepping down from her role to focus on her campaign, leaving an active and vibrant party ready to build power and win in 2020 and beyond.

“I’m delighted to have the support of my political home, the Working Families Party,” said Marina Dimitrijevic. “The WFP has won some remarkable fights in Wisconsin in the last four years, including helping elect Gov. Tony Evers and one of our own state committee members, Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes. I’m proud of what we accomplished in Wisconsin during my tenure as state director, and I can’t wait to work alongside the WFP to make Milwaukee work for the many, and not the few.”

The Working Families Party is a grassroots progressive political party that recruits, trains, and elects the next generation of progressive leaders to office. This year in Milwaukee the WFP helped elect a slate of five pro-public education members to the Milwaukee School Board of Directors.

In 2018 the WFP helped to drive the progressive wave up and down the ballot, flipping state senate chambers in New York and Colorado, and ousting Gov. Scott Walker (R-Wis.).
